Incoming Kaiti Member of Parliament Alex Musomba has penned an open letter to Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, delivering a firm political message on the Kamba community’s preferred direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. Musomba has maintained that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka should be the presidential flagbearer if the community is to rally behind the opposition.
In the letter addressed directly to Gachagua, Musomba declared that if Kalonzo is not given the presidential ticket, President William Ruto would remain an alternative for the Kamba community. He emphasised that the position was deliberate and reflected a firm stand rather than a casual political statement.
“We write to you concerning the position we have stated clearly: if Kalonzo Musyoka is not the flagbearer, Ruto will be our option,” Musomba stated, underscoring what he described as the community’s unwavering position on the presidential contest.
The incoming Kaiti MP urged Gachagua to take the message seriously and communicate it accurately, signalling that the community expects its political interests and demands to be considered in ongoing opposition realignments. His remarks place renewed focus on the question of who should carry the opposition’s presidential flag in the next election.
Musomba also called on the Kamba community to remain consistent in pressing for Kalonzo’s candidature, suggesting that sustained political pressure was beginning to draw attention to the issue. He urged the community not to abandon its position, maintaining that its message was already being heard in the wider political debate.

The statement introduces a clear political choice into the emerging 2027 contest: a Kalonzo Musyoka presidential candidature or a possible shift towards President Ruto. However, Musomba’s letter represents his stated position and should not automatically be interpreted as a formal declaration by the entire Kamba community or an official endorsement by all its political leaders.
As political alliances continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election, Musomba’s message adds to the growing debate over Kalonzo’s place in the opposition coalition and the bargaining power of the Kamba community. Whether the declaration signals a broader political shift or serves as pressure for Kalonzo to secure the flagbearer position remains to be seen.
