Kitui Central MP hopeful Mutisya Mwema has received a political boost after Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and their leaders unanimously endorsed his bid for the constituency’s parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
During a consultative meeting held on Wednesday, the health promoters engaged Mwema on issues affecting their work and the wider community, with their leaders pledging to rally behind his candidature.
The CHPs, who each cover more than 100 households within their respective areas of jurisdiction, said their close interaction with residents places them in a unique position to understand the community’s needs and challenges.
Their leaders claimed that other parliamentary aspirants had not reached out to them for similar engagements, expressing disappointment with what they described as a lack of recognition of their role in community healthcare.
The promoters pledged to support Mwema’s bid, saying they were committed to seeing him elected Kitui Central MP in 2027.
In his remarks, Mwema welcomed their support and pledged to work closely with the CHPs throughout his campaign, signalling his intention to maintain engagement with grassroots groups as he seeks to strengthen his political base.
The health promoters also praised Mwema for what they described as his contribution to creating business opportunities for residents of Kitui Central and beyond through his business ventures.
Their endorsement adds to the growing political activity in Kitui Central as aspirants intensify grassroots consultations and seek to build support ahead of the 2027 elections.
