Kitui Government Assures Lab Technicians of Action on Grievances
The County Government of Kitui, through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, has assured medical laboratory practitioners that their grievances will be addressed through the county’s budgetary and administrative processes.
The assurance came after medical laboratory technicians, through their union leadership, petitioned the county government over several challenges affecting their working conditions and the delivery of laboratory services across the county.
The practitioners were received by Dr Benson Musyoka, the Chief Officer for Medical Services, at his office within the Kitui Referral Hospital complex. Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Musyoka said the county government had taken note of the concerns raised and would work towards addressing issues within its mandate.
Among the key grievances presented by the union were stagnation and lack of promotions, inadequate laboratory equipment and understaffing. Musyoka said the county would seek to address the challenges through subsequent budgets, subject to available resources and the relevant government processes.
Musyoka assured the medical laboratory practitioners that the administration of Governor Dr Julius Malombe remains committed to improving the health sector and addressing legitimate concerns raised by healthcare workers. He called for continued engagement between the county government and the union to find sustainable solutions to the challenges.
He also assured residents that laboratory services in health facilities across Kitui County had not been significantly affected by the practitioners’ picketing. Musyoka said the county government would continue engaging the laboratory practitioners as it works to resolve grievances falling within its mandate.
