Kitui Senator Hopeful Dr Stephen Mbaya Condemns Kwakamari, Ukasi Killings, Calls for Swift Security Crackdown

Kitui Senator hopeful Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele has strongly condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks in parts of Mwingi, describing them as “senseless and inhumane acts” that have left communities in shock and mourning.

In a statement, Dr. Mbaya decried the brutal killing of seven people in Kwakamari, Tseikuru Ward, as well as the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy in Ukasi, Nguni Ward, allegedly at the hands of suspected camel herders.

He said the incidents have instilled fear among residents and disrupted the sense of security in the region, noting that no family should be forced to endure such devastating loss.

“These horrific acts of violence have caused immense pain within our communities. It is unacceptable that innocent lives continue to be lost in such a cruel manner,” he said.

Dr. Mbaya called on security agencies, particularly the police, to move with speed and decisiveness to restore order. He urged authorities to conduct thorough operations in the Mwingi Game Reserve and its surrounding areas to track down and arrest those responsible.

“Those behind these heinous crimes must be apprehended and brought to justice without delay,” he added.

At the same time, the senatorial aspirant appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory actions that could escalate tensions further. He encouraged locals to cooperate fully with law enforcement as investigations continue.

He also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, offering his condolences and assuring them of support during the difficult period.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. As a community, we must stand united and work together to restore peace and security in our region,” he said.

The attacks have renewed concerns over insecurity in Kitui County’s border areas, with leaders increasingly calling for urgent and sustained government intervention.
