Business Mogul Mutisya Mwema Enters Kitui Central MP Race as Over 3,000 Attend Declaration Meeting

Kitui businessman Mutisya Mwema has officially signalled his intention to contest the Kitui Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, drawing an impressive crowd of more than 3,000 people to a neighbours’ meeting marked by pomp, colour and enthusiastic support.

What began as a meeting to announce his political ambitions quickly turned into a major show of grassroots backing, with speaker after speaker highlighting Mwema’s contribution to the community and the lives he has touched across Kitui Central and beyond.

The gathering also witnessed a notable political shift, as several opinion leaders who had previously supported rival aspirants publicly declared their support for Mwema. They argued that his record of assisting people had earned him greater trust than some of those already seeking the parliamentary seat.

His neighbours unanimously endorsed his bid, describing him as a trusted son of the community whose relationship with the people goes beyond politics. Their message was clear: they want a leader they believe understands their challenges and has demonstrated a willingness to stand with them.

The meeting was attended by former Kitui Mayor Kivala Nzuki and other community leaders, adding political weight to Mwema’s declaration. With more than 3,000 people turning up for what was initially called a neighbours’ meeting, his entry into the Kitui Central race is already attracting attention and setting the stage for an increasingly competitive contest ahead of 2027.
