The construction of the Mwingi West Constituency Sports Academy has reached 92 per cent completion, bringing the region closer to having a modern sports facility dedicated to nurturing talent and empowering young people.
Once completed, the academy is expected to provide a platform for talented youth to develop their sporting abilities, pursue their dreams and explore opportunities in various sports disciplines. The facility is also expected to help identify and nurture promising athletes who could go on to represent the constituency, Kitui County and Kenya in major competitions.
Beyond sports, the project is expected to contribute to job creation and support livelihoods through opportunities linked to sports training, facility management and related activities. It will also provide young people with a constructive environment to develop their skills, build discipline and engage in healthy physical activities.
The academy is further expected to play a role in promoting fitness and addressing challenges facing young people, including drug and substance abuse, by encouraging participation in organised sports and other productive activities.
The project is funded by the National Government under the patronage of Mwingi West MP Hon. Charles Nguna. With construction now reported to be 92 per cent complete, residents are looking forward to the facility’s completion and the opportunities it could unlock for sports development and youth empowerment in the constituency.
