Kitui County is facing fresh political tension after Speaker Kinengo directed the County Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture, Water and Irrigation to summon CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele.
Critics of the move argue it amounts to pure malice and a witch hunt aimed at silencing the Waziri following his declaration of a bid for the senatorial seat. They claim the summons gained traction soon after Dr. Mbaya’s senatorial ambitions spread like bush fire across the county.
The backlash further notes that Speaker Kinengo pursued his own senatorial bid on a UDA ticket, which they say did not even take off from his village home in Musavani. The critics are now calling on Honourable members of the committee to refuse being used by Katisya to malign the executive, arguing that the summons is not genuine oversight but an attempt by Kinengo to frustrate Dr. Mbaya’s dreams and ambitions.
Adding to the political undertones, observers point out that Dr. Mbaya is likely to contest the senator seat on a Wiper ticket, while Speaker Kinengo is expected to vie for the same seat on a UDA party ticket, setting the stage for a direct political contest.
