The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock recently paid a visit to Karung’a in Kivou Ward, where he engaged with local residents and leaders on key development issues. Among those he met was veteran educator Mr. Malombe, with whom he held a meaningful conversation on the transformative potential of the KARUNG’A Dam.
At the heart of their discussion was the critical role the dam could play in advancing irrigated agriculture in the region. With reliable irrigation, Karung’a and surrounding communities stand to benefit from improved crop yields, enhanced food security, and increased household incomes — a major step toward sustainable development.
Beyond agriculture, the CECM emphasized that the dam could significantly improve access to clean water for domestic use, easing the burden on households and reducing waterborne diseases. The potential ripple effect includes better health outcomes and more time for productive activities, especially for women and children who often bear the burden of fetching water.
“With the right investment in infrastructure and support from both government and development partners, KARUNG’A Dam could become a game-changer not only for Karung’a but also for the wider Kivou Ward,” the CECM stated.
The visit underscored the county’s commitment to tapping into local resources to drive socio-economic progress and improve the quality of life for its residents. Community members expressed optimism and urged for swift action to realize the full benefits of the dam project.
As discussions continue, the KARUNG’A Dam stands out as a beacon of opportunity — one that could usher in a new era of growth and resilience for the people of Kivou Ward.
