The race for the Kitui West parliamentary seat is steadily gathering momentum, with Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Commissioner Benedict Muasya emerging as one of the leading figures expected to challenge incumbent MP Edith Nyenze in the 2027 General Election. Muasya, who contested the seat on a UDA ticket in 2022, has continued to maintain a visible presence in the constituency through development engagements and public meetings.
Political observers say the contest is likely to rank among the most competitive races in Kitui County as UDA seeks to expand its influence in a region that has traditionally supported the Wiper Democratic Movement. While there has been speculation that the ruling party is prioritizing the constituency, no official statement has been issued by President William Ruto or UDA confirming such plans.
Muasya’s supporters argue that his experience in public service and continued interaction with residents have strengthened his chances of unseating the incumbent. They believe the 2027 election presents an opportunity for voters to evaluate candidates based on their development agenda and leadership record.
On the other hand, MP Edith Nyenze is expected to defend her seat on the Wiper Party ticket, setting up what is anticipated to be a closely contested battle. As the sitting legislator, Nyenze is expected to campaign on her record in office while seeking another term to continue serving the people of Kitui West.
Although the official campaign period is still some time away, political activity in Kitui West is already intensifying, with leaders positioning themselves for the highly anticipated contest. If current political trends continue, the constituency is expected to be one of the key parliamentary battlegrounds in Kitui County during the 2027 General Election.
