Kitui Speaker Kevin Kinengo Warns Against ‘Political Gods’, Urges Faith in God

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo has called on residents to place their trust in God rather than elevating politicians to positions of worship, in a strongly worded message shared on the “Kitui Professional Chat” online platform. The forum, which brings together influential voices in Kitui’s political space, became the stage for Kinengo’s caution against what he termed as rising “political idolatry.”

In his remarks, Kinengo criticized politicians who brand themselves as prophets, insisting that such titles are divinely ordained and not self-assigned. Quoting biblical scripture, including Jeremiah 1:4–10, the Speaker emphasized that leadership should reflect the sovereign will of the people as protected under Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. He urged citizens to reject manipulation and independently elect leaders without undue political influence, warning against individuals he described as “false prophets” misleading the public.

The Speaker further declared his readiness to endure political backlash in defense of what he termed as truth and development-focused leadership. He maintained that his commitment to serve the people of Kitui County is guided by faith and a desire to uplift communities from poverty and underdevelopment. Kinengo also affirmed his continued collaboration with President William Ruto in advancing development initiatives in the county, stating that his decisions are driven by the broader interests of residents.

Addressing claims about his political background, Kinengo dismissed narratives suggesting he was sponsored or educated by political figures. He credited his late mother for his upbringing and education, highlighting her sacrifices as a single parent. He also revealed that certain political leaders had previously attempted to impeach him on three occasions, adding that despite these challenges, he remains steadfast and unshaken.

Kinengo concluded by reiterating his position that leadership should not be driven by fear or intimidation, asserting that while he respects political leaders, he does not fear them. He maintained that his allegiance remains firmly rooted in faith, vowing to continue standing against political manipulation while championing development for the people of Kitui.
