Kitui County marked World Tourism Day with a historic launch of the Kitui Tourism Circuit at the iconic Nzambani Rock, a giant monolithic outcrop that has long symbolized the county’s resilience and heritage.
The launch, led by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, unveiled four tourism sub-circuits:
- Kitui Southern Sub-Circuit
- Kitui Central Sub-Circuit
- Mwingi Central Sub-Circuit
- Mwingi North Sub-Circuit
The initiative aligns with this year’s United Nations World Tourism Day theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” It underscores tourism’s role as a driver of positive change, not only as an economic sector but also as a catalyst for social progress, education, and job creation.
Governor Malombe emphasized the need for good governance, strategic planning, and sustainable practices to fully unlock tourism’s potential in the region. The circuit is expected to promote inclusivity, resilience, and social equity while opening new opportunities for local communities.
With the unveiling, Kitui positions itself as a vibrant tourism destination in Kenya, inviting visitors to explore its unique natural, cultural, and historical heritage.
