Kitui Governor Malombe Commissions 150-metre Thua Drift in Voo/Kyamatu Ward as resident Express Untold joy

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today officially commissioned the 150-metre Thua Drift along the Kiangini–Thua River–Kyukuni road in Voo/Kyamatu Ward, marking a major milestone in the county’s efforts to improve rural infrastructure and enhance connectivity for local communities.

The newly completed drift, which is already open to the public, is expected to significantly ease movement across the area by providing a reliable crossing point along a route that has long posed challenges to residents, especially during rainy seasons when transport disruptions were common.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that directly improves the livelihoods of residents. He noted that better roads and river crossings are essential for promoting economic activities and ensuring easier access to markets, schools, and health facilities.

Residents welcomed the project, describing it as a transformative development that will improve transport efficiency and reduce travel time. The drift is expected to benefit farmers, traders, students, and other road users who depend on the route for their daily activities.

Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, who accompanied the Governor during the event, praised the successful completion of the project and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to implementing development projects that address the needs of local communities across Kitui County.

Also present during the commissioning were Voo/Kyamatu MCA Hon. Zack Syengo, Chuluni MCA Hon. Mathew Vuthi, and several County Executive Committee Members and senior county officials. The leaders lauded the project as a key investment that will strengthen transport networks and support socio-economic growth in the region.

The commissioning of the Thua Drift adds to a series of infrastructure projects being undertaken by the County Government of Kitui aimed at enhancing accessibility, improving service delivery, and stimulating development across the county. Residents expressed optimism that the improved road infrastructure will open up more opportunities and contribute to the area’s long-term growth.
