UTOONI EMERGES AS POLITICAL POWER CENTRE AS 3,000 KYANGWITHYA WEST LEADERS ENDORSE NZILU FOR KITUI CENTRAL MP
Businessman Boniface Mutia has hosted more than 3,000 grassroots leaders from Kyangwithya West at Utooni in a major political engagement forum that could reshape the constituency’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During the meeting, the grassroots leaders unanimously endorsed Kitui West MCA Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka as their preferred candidate for Kitui Central MP in 2027. They also declared Utooni the headquarters of Kyangwithya West, signalling their desire to establish a central point for grassroots coordination and community leadership.
The forum further saw the election of village representatives from among the leaders who attended, in what Mutia described as an effort to strengthen grassroots organisation and ensure communities have a voice in decisions affecting their future.
Speaking during the engagement, Mutia disclosed that two Kitui gubernatorial aspirants had already reached out to him, adding that he was prepared to meet other candidates, listen to their visions and engage them. He promised to consult his people before advising them on the most suitable candidate for the Kitui governorship in 2027.
On party politics, Mutia urged residents to listen to all aspirants and make independent choices based on leadership ability rather than political party affiliations. He challenged the community to reject leaders imposed by political power brokers, arguing that Kitui County needs leaders who genuinely connect with the people, understand their challenges and represent their aspirations. “It is time to liberate Kitui County from useless leaders imposed on the people by political masters,” he said.
