Mutisya Muema Utoto Gains Momentum as Grassroots Support Builds in Kitui Central

Kitui Central parliamentary aspirant Mutisya Muema Utoto is increasingly stepping up his grassroots engagements, with growing numbers of elders, women, youth groups and community leaders reportedly seeking meetings with him ahead of the 2027 General Election. His supporters say the growing interest reflects a rising appetite for his leadership, as he positions himself as a strong contender in the constituency’s political contest.

Utoto is presenting himself as a people-centred leader whose strength lies in accessibility, personal connections and willingness to engage with residents. His campaign narrative emphasises listening to ordinary citizens, responding to community concerns and maintaining close relationships with grassroots networks, an approach his supporters believe could give him an advantage in the race.

On matters of education and professional qualifications, Utoto brings an extensive academic background. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Postgraduate Diploma and CPA-K qualification. He is also a third-year Law student at the University of Nairobi and is awaiting his PhD graduation. His supporters argue that his academic and professional experience could strengthen his approach to representation, policy and development.

The aspirant has also expanded his outreach beyond physical meetings, recently appearing on Syokimau FM, where he discussed his vision for Kitui Central. He highlighted key priorities, including improved road infrastructure, better education standards, youth empowerment and opportunities for women. The radio engagement provided him with an opportunity to communicate his agenda directly to listeners and respond to the growing political conversation surrounding his candidature.

With incumbent MP Makali Mulu expected to shift his political focus towards the Kitui gubernatorial contest, attention is increasingly turning to the emerging succession battle in Kitui Central. Utoto is seeking to capitalise on the changing political landscape by building grassroots connections and presenting himself as an alternative for the constituency. Whether the growing enthusiasm among his supporters translates into votes in 2027 remains to be seen, but his campaign is clearly seeking to establish itself as a force in the race.
