Governor Malombe Commits to Boosting Agro-Industrial Growth, Security, and Environmental Conservation

Kitui, April 10, 2025 – The County Government of Kitui, under the leadership of Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, today signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society Limited. The agreement, formalized outside the Governor’s Office Block, sets the stage for a progressive partnership aimed at accelerating agricultural, industrial, environmental, and infrastructural development in the region.

The MoU outlines key areas of collaboration, including the development of access roads, drilling and equipping of boreholes, electricity connectivity, and the construction of earth dams within the land leased to the Society by the county government. These efforts are aimed at enhancing productivity and sustainability across the cooperative’s operations.

Governor Malombe emphasized the County’s commitment to enhancing security by partnering with the National Police Service to establish a police post in the area. He also highlighted plans to promote tourism and related ventures aligned with the cooperative’s goals.

“We will work together to ensure adequate security and promote tourism and related activities in support of the Society’s objectives,” stated Governor Malombe.

He further affirmed that the County Government will harness technology and value addition strategies to support the Society’s activities, while also reviewing current lease terms to allow for broader utilization of the land for ranching and agro-industrial purposes.

In a strong push for environmental restoration, the County Ministry of Environment will facilitate tree-planting initiatives to enhance forest cover and curb land degradation. The MoU also outlines measures to prevent further encroachment on the Society’s land.

B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative, under the County Ministry of Trade, recently ceded 1,500 acres of land near Kanyonyoo Town to support the construction of the Kitui County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP). This flagship project, jointly implemented by the national and county governments, is expected to transform Kitui’s economic landscape by promoting agro-industrial development, job creation, and increased farmer incomes.

Once completed, CAIP will serve as a hub for manufacturing, agricultural value chains, and investment, bringing together farmers, processors, exporters, researchers, and government agencies to foster inclusive and sustainable growth.

Today’s MoU marks a milestone in Kitui’s journey towards economic transformation and sustainable development through strategic partnerships and resource optimization.p
