Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze Hits Out at CRA Commissioner Muasya Over Development Projects & Lies

Kitui West Member of Parliament Hon. Edith Nyenze has strongly criticized Commissioner on Revenue Allocation (CRA) Benedict Muasya, accusing him of misleading residents regarding development projects in the constituency.

Speaking in a church in kitui west where they shared podium, Nyenze said several projects being implemented in Kitui West were personally lobbied for through the national government and should not be used for political misinformation.

The legislator defended her decision to oppose the Finance Bill 2026, saying the proposed law contains punitive measures that would negatively affect ordinary Kenyans.

According to Nyenze, one of the contentious proposals in the bill is the introduction of a 16 percent levy on M-Pesa transactions, which she argued would place an additional burden on citizens already facing economic hardships.

“As the elected representative of the people of Kitui West, I had a responsibility to oppose clauses that are aimed at punishing the common citizen,” she said.

The MP maintained that she would continue opposing laws she believes are harmful to residents of Kitui West and Kenyans at large.

Her remarks came in response to statements by CRA Commissioner Benedict Muasya, who reportedly questioned why the MP opposed the Finance Bill while at the same time seeking government-funded development projects linked to revenues generated through the same legislation.

Nyenze dismissed Muasya’s claims, terming them misleading and accusing him of spreading false information.

She further urged residents of Kitui West to disregard the Commissioner’s remarks, describing him as “a smart liar.”

The exchange highlights growing political differences over the Finance Bill 2026 and its potential impact on development and taxation.
