KAKUYUNI, KANZIKU/SIMISI WARD* – Kitui Central MP aspirant Gladies Mami Kivoto, alongside fellow County Government officials, joined hundreds of residents of Kakuyuni Village, Ngali Sub-location, in paying final respects to the late Elizabeth Kaviti Maithya.

It was a deeply emotional moment as mourners bid farewell to a life tragically cut short following a fatal elephant attack last Saturday.

*ENDLESS PAIN FROM HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT*
For far too long, residents of Kanziku/Simisi Ward have endured the devastating impact of human-wildlife conflict. Farms have been destroyed, livelihoods disrupted, and lives lost. The death of Mama Elizabeth was cited as another painful reminder that the ongoing crisis demands urgent and decisive action from all responsible authorities.

*CONDOLENCES AND SUPPORT*
On behalf of H.E. Governor Malombe, Kivoto conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and presented financial support of Ksh. 75,000 during the difficult time. She noted that while no amount can replace a life, leaders stand with the family as they grieve.

*LEADERS PRESENT*
Kivoto was accompanied by Waziri Peter Kilonzo, “Tangawizi”, CO Ferdinand Kathenge, CO Benjamin Kyambi, and the Governor’s Political Advisor, Hon. Mwangu Ivuti. The large turnout of leaders and residents reflected the community’s shared grief and frustration over repeated wildlife attacks.

*TIME FOR DECISIVE ACTION*
Addressing mourners, Kivoto said the Kenya Wildlife Service and national government must move beyond compensation forms. She called for electric fences, rapid response units, and real community engagement.

“Our people cannot keep burying mothers and fathers while waiting for reports,” Kivoto stated.

As MP aspirant for Kitui Central, Kivoto pledged to make human-wildlife conflict a priority in Parliament — pushing for policy, funding, and accountability so that no other family suffers like the Maithyas.

May the soul of Elizabeth Kaviti Maithya rest in eternal peace.
