Kitui County CECM for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Fredrick Kimanga, has launched new revenue collection booths across Kitui town to enhance efficiency, accountability, and convenience in the collection of parking fees.

The launch, held in Kitui Municipality, was attended by the Municipality Manager, Madam Irene, and other county officials.

Mr. Kimanga thanked residents for their continued compliance in paying parking fees, noting that the revenue collected has been key in supporting urban development projects such as improved roads, better street lighting, and enhanced sanitation.

“Street parking fees are not just charges; they are an important contribution to urban growth. These funds help us create a cleaner, safer, and more organized business environment,” he said.

The booths have been set up at strategic locations to improve accessibility:

  • Opposite Winlow Building – serving Kilungya Street
  • Opposite Cooperative Bank – serving Mukuti Street
  • Adjacent to Taxi Parking – serving Biashara Street
  • Near Univision Sacco – serving Kitui-Kibwezi B7 road

Despite progress, the county faces challenges such as reluctance by some motorists to pay parking fees, businesses encroaching on parking spaces, and boda boda riders occupying designated slots. Kimanga urged all stakeholders to cooperate for the success of the initiative.

He also revealed that the county is working towards full automation of parking fee payments, which will soon allow motorists to pay digitally for enhanced transparency and convenience. The physical booths will remain operational to serve those who may face network or system challenges.

“Together, we can make Kitui town cleaner, better organized, and more attractive to residents, investors, and visitors,” Kimanga concluded.

The initiative is expected to significantly boost revenue generation and urban planning, positioning Kitui town as a growing hub for business and investment.
