Africa CDC, AMREF Partner Roll Out Joint Supervision in Kitui County

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in partnership with Amref Health Africa, UNICEF, Akros and the Kenya Red Cross Society, has launched a five-day joint supervision and outreach program in Kitui County.

The initiative, running from 18th to 22nd August 2025, aims to strengthen health systems, boost immunization coverage and promote the One Health Approach by integrating human and animal health services.

The exercise kicked off with a courtesy call to Kitui County leadership at Ngolu Hotel. In attendance were CECM for Agriculture Dr. Kimwele Mbaya, CECM for Environment Richard Mwendandu, and county chief officers for health, livestock and environment.

On Tuesday, teams are scheduled to visit Migwani Subcounty Hospital, Mwingi West, the Outreach services will also be conducted at Uini, offering mobile clinics, animal health services and health talks.

Wednesday’s focus will be on vaccine safety, including AEFI reporting and pharmacovigilance, with visits to Tiva Health Centre (Kitui Central) and Matinyani (Kitui West).

The program will then move to Kisasi Health Centre (Kitui Rural) on Thursday before an outreach in Kitungati, Mbitini Ward, featuring human and animal immunization, NCD screening and community education.

The mission will wrap up on Friday with a debrief meeting at Ngolu Hotel, where partners will review achievements and chart the way forward.

Amref Health Africa’s Team Lead Mary Mathenge said the exercise reflects the power of partnerships in delivering quality health services and building community resilience against health threats.
