The National Liberal Party (NLP) leader, Dr. Muli Kyalo, has launched a scathing attack on opposition leaders Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing them of hypocrisy over their stance on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection process.

In a hard-hitting statement, Dr. Kyalo dismissed the opposition’s recent outcry regarding the composition of the electoral commission, arguing that the same leaders had previously lobbied to have their allies included in the IEBC selection panel.

“For eight months, the NLP was in court fighting for a fair and independent selection process—yet these same leaders were silent. Instead of advocating for justice and transparency, they were focused on securing political advantage,” he said.

Dr. Kyalo insisted that the credibility of the IEBC must not be dictated by political deals but through a transparent and lawful selection process. He warned that any attempt—whether by the government or the opposition—to impose politically aligned individuals into the commission would amount to a betrayal of democracy.

“The youth and Gen Zs are watching. Marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities, are watching. This time, nothing short of an inclusive and transparent IEBC will satisfy Kenyans,” he declared.

The NLP leader also urged politicians to prioritize the interests of the people rather than engaging in self-serving power struggles. He vowed that his party would remain vigilant in safeguarding the independence of the electoral body, warning that any effort to hijack the process would be met with resistance.

As the debate over the IEBC selection process intensifies, Dr. Kyalo’s remarks add to the growing political tension surrounding Kenya’s electoral reforms.
