Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani on Tuesday represented Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, at a high-level consultative meeting convened at State House, Nairobi, to review the implementation of key intergovernmental development projects and address critical issues affecting county governments.
The meeting, chaired by Council of Governors (CoG) Chairperson H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi, EGH, and hosted by President H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, brought together top national and county leadership for structured dialogue on accelerating service delivery across the country.
Key among the deliberations was the implementation of the County Governments Additional Allocations Act, 2025. In a move welcomed by county governments, the National Treasury committed to ensuring the timely disbursement of the equitable share of national revenue. To facilitate full absorption of allocated funds, an extension was granted ahead of the close of the current financial year.
The meeting also placed strong emphasis on strengthening the public health sector. It was agreed that public health facilities across all counties will be integrated into the ongoing national digitisation programme, aimed at curbing fraudulent claims and enhancing transparency and accountability.
To further enhance health service delivery, both levels of government will collaborate closely on the requisition and supply of essential medical equipment across counties.
Agriculture was another key agenda item, with renewed focus on scaling up the national livestock vaccination programme, improving the last-mile distribution of subsidised fertiliser, and revitalising cooperative societies to boost agricultural productivity and food security.
Additionally, leaders reaffirmed that the management of markets will remain an exclusive function of county governments, in line with the spirit of devolution.
The State House meeting underscored the importance of continued structured engagement between the national and county governments. Both levels pledged to deepen collaboration in the implementation of joint programmes, with a shared goal of strengthening devolution and improving service delivery to all Kenyans.
H.E. Wambua Kanani reiterated Kitui County’s commitment to intergovernmental collaboration, especially in the key sectors of health, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
