Development momentum in Ikanga/Kyatune Ward continues to gain ground under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, widely known as Sonko. In a significant infrastructural milestone, the MCA’s office, in collaboration with Kitui County Government officials and members of the local community, today officially handed over the site for the construction of concrete slaps on both sides of River Ngunga.
The project entails the construction of two 30-meter concrete slaps that will complement the 40-meter drift already planned across the river. This initiative comes just a day after the official launch of the River Ngunga drift construction—marking swift and decisive action toward bridging communities historically cut off by seasonal floods and impassable routes.
The drift and accompanying slaps are expected to transform accessibility and economic activity in the area. Once complete, the infrastructure will provide a direct, all-weather connection for residents of Yongela and neighboring villages to key trading centers such as Ikanga and Kyatune. Local farmers, traders, school-going children, and those in need of healthcare will benefit immensely from reduced travel time and improved mobility.
Residents have lauded Hon. Sonko for his commitment to delivering on his promises. With fewer than three years in office, his proactive lobbying and execution of critical projects have not only changed the landscape of Ikanga/Kyatune but also solidified his reputation as a results-driven leader.
As construction gets underway, the project stands as a testament to effective leadership and community-centered development.
