NLP party Leader Dr Augustus Muli has called out the government on the manner in which Kitui based blogger Emmanuel Maleve was arrested and bundled out of the town.
Maleve was abducted by unknown persons who some people have claimed to be police officers and driven out of the town. Officers at Kitui Central Police Station have denied any involvement in the arrest or abduction and have refused to register an abduction report by his associates.
Speaking on phone from Kitui South where he is leading his party in countrywide membership recruitment drive, Dr Muli asked the Police and Government to immediately release details on the whereabouts of Emmanuel Maleve within the next 24 hours.
Dr. Muli condemned the silence and apparent complicity of local security agencies, stating that such actions undermine public trust and threaten democratic freedoms. He emphasized that no citizen should be targeted or disappeared without due process, especially for exercising their freedom of expression. “This kind of intimidation has no place in a constitutional democracy,” he said, adding that the NLP will pursue legal and civic channels to ensure Maleve’s safety and accountability from the authorities.
He further called on human rights organizations, civil society, and the media to remain vigilant and amplify the case until justice is served. Dr. Muli warned that if the government fails to act transparently, the NLP and its supporters will stage peaceful protests to demand answers. “We will not rest until Maleve is found and those behind this unlawful act are brought to justice,” he affirmed.
