Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has laid out a scorecard of 2,931 projects delivered across all 247 villages since August 2022, as the third Kitui County Executive consultative forum closed in Mombasa today.
Speaking to the press under the theme “Vision to Legacy: Communicating the Four-Year Score Card and Achievements of the Kitui Promise,” the Governor said the sessions reviewed county progress and set priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year.
Key sectors, real numbers
Malombe reported gains in agriculture, water, health, education, roads, trade and energy. His administration has trained _over 827,000 farmers_ and vaccinated _more than 1.1 million livestock_ to boost food security and household incomes.
On water, he cited the _Sh840 million Kangukangu Water Supply Project_ now serving about 100,000 residents, plus new sump wells and sand dams to expand access in dry zones.
Health and education milestones
The county has operationalized the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre and set up ICU and HDU units at Kitui County Referral Hospital to strengthen specialized care.
In education, _1,688 ECDE teachers_ have been employed on permanent and pensionable terms, a move Malombe said secures early learning and motivates staff.
Infrastructure and tough choices
Kitui continues to invest in roads, industrial parks and modern markets in partnership with the National Government.
The Governor defended the decision to postpone construction of 40 MCA ward offices, saying urgent needs in education and roads must come first. “We are choosing classrooms and access roads over offices for now,” he said.
What’s next for 2026/2027
As the consultative workshop closed, Malombe recommitted to inclusive development under the CIDP and the Kitui Promise agenda. Priority will go to scaling water projects, health systems, farmer support, and road networks that unlock markets.
The message from Mombasa was clear: 2,931 projects in, and Kitui’s leadership says the work continues.
