A section of Kitui leaders has strongly dismissed proposals by Wiper Party Leader H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka to rename the newly built Ithookwe Stadium after the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, terming the suggestion as “misplaced and mediocre.”
The leaders argued that the stadium, which has been fully constructed under the leadership of President William Ruto, stands as a symbol of development and national unity — not a platform for political tokenism. They maintained that credit should be given where it is due, emphasizing that the facility is a result of the national government’s investment and not a partisan achievement.
According to the leaders, renaming the stadium would not only undermine the President’s contribution but also distort the spirit of unity and progress that the project represents. They insisted that Ithookwe Stadium should retain its name as a mark of Kitui’s identity and pride.
“It’s becoming increasingly imperative that Kalonzo Musyoka assembles a serious team to manage his messaging and image,” one leader remarked, noting that such public missteps risk damaging his credibility as a national figure.
They further challenged the former Vice President to focus on presenting himself as a presidential candidate capable of uniting the nation, rather than engaging in politically charged symbolic gestures that offer little value to local residents.
As the debate continues, the leaders have urged political figures to appreciate development efforts objectively and to prioritize the interests of Kitui residents over partisan recognition battles.
