The Kitui County booth at the ongoing 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay is attracting massive attention, thanks to its cutting-edge innovations in the food value chain.From solar-dried mango flakes and crisps to roasted millet flour and high-quality sunflower cooking oil, the county is demonstrating transformative agribusiness solutions that put farmers at the center of wealth creation and food security.
Crowds have been thronging the stylish booth, impressed by Kitui’s commitment to not only producing food but also adding value—boosting incomes, creating jobs, and reducing hunger.“We are on the path to making Kitui food secure. Attaining food security is part of Governor Malombe’s core agenda,” said County Agriculture Minister Mbaya Kimwele.
Chief Officer for Agriculture Gladys Kivoto encouraged farmers to embrace value addition to minimize waste and increase earnings. She noted that sunflower farming has emerged as a profitable and dependable venture for local farmers.“Sunflower oil is in high demand and commands good prices.
We are training farmers and supporting them across the entire value chain,” added Waziri Kimwele.The exhibit has positioned Kitui as a rising leader in agricultural innovation and rural economic transformation.
