Following a high-level meeting between Ukambani leaders and President William Ruto at State House on Wednesday, Hon. Kyalo Kimuli, Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kanziko Ward, has outlined a series of transformative development promises for Kitui South and the wider Kitui County.
Hon. Kimuli expressed optimism about the government’s renewed commitment to fast-track long-standing infrastructure and development projects in the region. He noted that the pledges made by the President are expected to boost the local economy, improve accessibility, and enhance service delivery in various sectors.
Key commitments announced include:
- Tarmacking of Ikutha–Kanziko–Mutha Road – A vital transport corridor that will open up trade and improve connectivity in Kitui South.
- Tarmacking of Mutha–Mutomo Road – Set to ease movement and reduce transport costs for locals.
- Electricity Connectivity – All public institutions across Kitui County to be connected to the national grid, improving access to digital services and enhancing education and healthcare facilities.
- Completion of Kitui–Kibwezi Road at Mbondoni – A strategic infrastructure project linking Kitui to major economic hubs.
- Completion of Kadwiya–Kamuwongo Road – A move to improve rural access and stimulate local development.
- Construction of 8 Mega Markets – Spread across Kitui County, these will provide modern trading spaces for small-scale traders and boost the county’s economy.
- Completion of Umaa Dam – To ensure a steady water supply for domestic and agricultural use.
- Completion of Thwake Dam – A flagship project that will support irrigation, water supply, and potential hydroelectric power generation.
Hon. Kimuli thanked President Ruto for prioritizing the needs of Kitui residents and called for unity among local leaders to ensure the successful implementation of the promised projects. He urged the community to remain hopeful and vigilant as the national government begins to roll out these ambitious plans.
“This is a win for Kitui South and the entire Kitui County. We must now work together to ensure these promises become a reality,” Hon. Kimuli said.
