State House Director of Events, Boniface Musambi, has commended the ongoing construction of the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui Central, describing it as a transformative project that will redefine Kitui’s place in Kenya’s national development landscape.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his official social media platforms, Musambi expressed confidence in the timely completion of the modern 10,000-seater facility, which is expected to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2025.
“Construction of the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui Central Constituency is well underway and progressing on schedule. Once completed in the next three months, the 10,000-seater facility is expected to proudly host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations on Friday, October 20, 2025,” he wrote.
Musambi also highlighted the simultaneous upgrade of the adjacent Ithookwe Airstrip, which is being modernized to handle the logistical and security demands of the national event and to support long-term regional connectivity and growth.
He termed the dual developments as “a major milestone for Kitui County — not just as a host of a national celebration, but as a rising hub for infrastructure, sports, and economic transformation.”
Musambi, a proud son of Kitui, thanked President William Samoei Ruto for delivering on his promise to uplift the region, terming the stadium and airstrip projects as a “game changer” for the people of Kitui.
The Ithookwe Stadium and Airstrip upgrades are part of a broader national infrastructure agenda spearheaded by the Ruto administration, aiming to decentralize development and promote inclusive growth across all counties.
