A political storm is unfolding in Mwingi West following the approval of a major road project, with competing leaders scrambling to claim credit for the development.
At the center of the controversy are Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke and Mwingi West Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Nguna, who are credited with successfully lobbying for the road project weeks ago. According to credible sources, the two leaders secured the deal prior to a separate delegation’s visit to State House, where former Kitui Senator Hon. David Musila was in attendance.
Despite the timing, political operatives allied to Musila are now attempting to shift the narrative, claiming that it was his intervention that delivered the project. This has drawn sharp criticism from Hon. Nguna’s supporters, who accuse a section of political players in Mwingi West of deliberately misleading the public for political mileage.
“The truth is clear—PS Jonathan Mueke and Hon. Charles Nguna worked diligently to secure the road project. It is unfortunate that some political cartels are now trying to hijack the credit,” said a close ally of the MP.
Hon. Nguna, who did not attend the recent State House meeting, has maintained a low profile amidst the claims, letting the facts of the matter speak for themselves. His supporters, however, have not held back.
“These cartels who are trying to dance around this matter should just retire and give space to young, progressive leaders. The era of riding on other people’s efforts is over,” said a youth leader in Mwingi West.
As residents welcome the long-overdue road development, many are calling on leaders to set aside political differences and focus on delivering results.
