Kitui County Assembly Member for Voo Kyamatu Ward, Hon. Dr. Zack Syengo, has officially declared his candidacy for the Kitui East parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Elections. Syengo, who also serves as the chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the Kitui County Assembly, made the announcement during a live interview on Kwitu FM on Tuesday morning.
During the interview, Dr. Syengo expressed confidence in his ability to lead and promised to bring transformative leadership to Kitui East. He also boldly stated his ambition to chair the National Assembly Budget Committee once elected as MP in 2027.
“I will be the chairman of the National Assembly Budget Committee in 2027,” declared Syengo, emphasizing his vision for financial oversight and development in the constituency and beyond.

His announcement sets the stage for a highly anticipated political contest against the incumbent, Hon. Nimrod Mbai, who is expected to seek re-election. Mbai, who has served as Kitui East MP since 2017, will now face a strong challenge from Syengo, who enjoys significant support at the county level due to his current leadership role.
Syengo’s declaration has already sparked political discussions in Kitui East, with supporters and political analysts weighing in on the potential shift in leadership dynamics. His experience in budgetary matters at the county level could be a significant advantage in his campaign as he seeks to position himself as the best candidate to represent the constituency’s interests in the National Assembly.
As the 2027 election campaigns take shape, Kitui East residents will keenly watch how the political landscape evolves, with Syengo and Mbai set to be key contenders in the parliamentary race.
