On 1st April 2025, an individual farm visit was conducted at Kelly Mwaniki’s farm in Thitani Village, Kyome/Thaana Ward, where the Kitui agricultural extension officer addressed key issues.

These included the importance of maintaining farm hygiene to prevent pest infestations and support plant health. The officer also provided strategies for controlling mealybug infestations, focusing on organic pesticides and proper farm sanitation.

Additionally, the extension officer offered guidance on identifying maturity indicators for pineapples and apples, helping the farmer determine the optimal harvest time for both crops.

President William Samoei Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led a mid-term review of Laikipia County’s economic charter, engaging directly with residents to assess progress on key development projects.

During the review, the President highlighted major projects that have been implemented as part of the economic transformation agenda for the county. Among the notable initiatives are the Last Mile Projects, worth KSh 612 million, which have benefited 4,314 households by enhancing electricity connectivity and infrastructure.

In response to concerns raised by residents in previous engagements, an electric fence project has been launched to curb human-wildlife conflict. This initiative aims to protect families and farmers, ensuring agricultural activities continue without fear of wildlife invasions.

Further, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the tuition block at Ng’arachi Comprehensive School, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing education facilities in the region.

The Head of State and his delegation also inspected key infrastructure projects in Nanyuki town, including the town market and an ongoing affordable housing project. The housing project, which is 95% complete, consists of 200 units, with plans underway to construct an additional 1,000 units.

Additionally, two major roads have been included in the inspection itinerary, with assessments scheduled for the July/August visit. These roads are expected to improve connectivity and boost economic activities within Laikipia County.

Security has also seen significant improvement, according to government reports, with efforts made to restore stability and enhance law enforcement measures.

Speaking at the event, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring all projects under the economic charter are completed as planned. “These are projects you can see, projects you can touch. We are delivering on our promises,” he stated.

Residents of Laikipia expressed optimism over the progress made, noting that the government’s hands-on approach to development is yielding tangible results.

The mid-term review serves as a crucial accountability mechanism, ensuring that government commitments align with the needs and aspirations of the people of Laikipia County.

Governor Malombe Hosts Ombudsman Team to Strengthen Access to Information in Kitui

0

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe today hosted a delegation from the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman), led by Commissioner Charles Njagua Kanyi and CEO Mercy Wambua, at his office. The visit was part of a collaborative effort to enhance access to information at the county level.

The Commission is working with county governments across Kenya to develop access to information acts that align with the unique governance structures of each of the 47 devolved units. The initiative aims to provide counties with technical support and build their capacity to formulate laws that cater to local circumstances, ensuring that citizens can access information on various programs implemented by county governments.

During the discussions, emphasis was placed on strengthening information channels at both the county and ward levels, particularly in support of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLOCA) project. The FLLOCA program is a national initiative designed to enhance climate change resilience by promoting sustainable local solutions.

Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, highlighting ongoing efforts to develop the Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM) Policy and domesticating the Access to Information Act, 2016. He noted that these measures will ensure efficient service delivery while enhancing public participation in governance.

The partnership between the Kitui County Government and the Commission on Administrative Justice is expected to improve governance by ensuring that information on government programs is readily available to the public, fostering accountability and informed citizen engagement.

Political Showdown Looms in Kitui West as Kimanga Gains Momentum

0

Kitui West MP Hon. Edith Nyenze is reportedly facing mounting political pressure as the 2027 General Election approaches. The rising influence of Frederick Kimanga, the current Ministry of Lands and Urban Development official, has sparked intense debate over the shifting political landscape in the constituency.

Kimanga, widely known for his down-to-earth nature and inclusive approach, has been steadily garnering support from various sectors of the electorate. His growing popularity has positioned him as the frontrunner among those who have declared interest in unseating Nyenze, raising questions about the future of Kitui West’s leadership.

Hon. Edith Nyenze, who has enjoyed solid support largely due to the legacy of her late husband, Francis Nyenze, now finds herself in an increasingly competitive race. Political analysts observe that Kimanga’s broad acceptance and grassroots appeal could present a formidable challenge to the incumbent MP.

As the political dynamics continue to evolve, speculation is rife on whether the tides are turning against Nyenze. With Kimanga’s influence expanding across different demographics, the battle for Kitui West is expected to intensify in the coming months.

Will Edith Nyenze withstand the growing wave of opposition, or is Kitui West on the verge of a major political shift? Only time will tell.

MULILA IS A BRAND—YOU CAN’T DILUTE IT WITH A UDA TAG,” DECLARE KITUI COUNTY RESIDENTS

0

In our commitment to due diligence and professional reporting, we can confidently state that recent social media reports linking Nicholas Mulila to a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the 2027 Kitui gubernatorial race are false and misleading. We categorically set the record straight—these claims are nothing more than baseless propaganda aimed at tarnishing the reputation of one of Kitui County’s most distinguished sons.

Hon. Nicholas Mulila is a man of integrity, a respected corporate leader, and a proven astute manager entrusted with safeguarding the assets and revenues of Safaricom PLC, a multibillion-shilling company. His unwavering ethical standards and commitment to community development have set him apart, giving his competitors sleepless nights—hence the emergence of unfounded rumors.

For the record, the UDA party, like any other, will conduct its nominations at the appropriate time, and the rightful winner will carry its ticket. However, we have established that Hon. Mulila is not even a member of the UDA party. His official declaration for the gubernatorial race remains highly anticipated by the people of Kitui.

“MULILA ona aungama na chama kitawa Ngiti tukamunenga kura,” declared Kioko Kamwendwa from Kitui South—affirming the people’s trust in his leadership beyond party politics.

While his opponents resort to propaganda, Hon. Mulila continues to solidify his grassroots support through transformative development projects and community-driven initiatives, positioning himself as a formidable candidate in the 2027 gubernatorial race.

Tseikuru MCA Aspirant Questions Incumbent’s Absence at Key Market Event

0

Tseikuru MCA aspirant Joseph Kang’utu Ngundo has raised concerns over the absence of the sitting MCA, Kimanzi Muange, during a significant function held in Tseikuru Town yesterday. The event, organized by the County Government of Kitui, saw the election of new officials to lead the Tseikuru market, one of the region’s key commercial hubs.

During the function, traders and stakeholders gathered as county officials facilitated the election of new market leaders to steer operations and address emerging trade challenges. The absence of the area MCA, who would have been expected to support and engage with traders on their concerns, drew questions from the aspirant and members of the public.

“It is crucial for our leaders to be present in such key events that shape the economic future of our people. The market is the backbone of Tseikuru’s economy, and leadership must be hands-on in ensuring traders thrive,” stated Kang’utu.

Meanwhile, the election process concluded successfully, with the following individuals securing leadership positions at the Tseikuru Market:

  • Chairperson: Syengo Kirugi
  • Vice Chairperson: Muthui Musyimi
  • Secretary: Katungulu Muswaili
  • Treasurer: Kalunda Musyoka

The newly elected officials are now tasked with overseeing the affairs of the market, which plays a vital role in the economic landscape of Tseikuru. With its vast trade networks and increasing commercial activity, the market requires dedicated and visionary leadership to address issues such as infrastructure, security, and trader welfare.

Community members and leaders have expressed their confidence in the elected team, urging them to demonstrate commitment, transparency, and progressive leadership. “This is a big market with complex trade dynamics, and therefore a serious, committed, and forward-thinking leadership is required. I believe those elected are equal to the task,” said Kang’utu.

He further called on the community to support the new leaders, offer ideas, and pray for their success in enhancing market operations and uplifting traders.

The newly elected team is expected to engage traders and stakeholders in discussions on ways to improve market facilities, enhance business opportunities, and address existing challenges.
