The National Liberation Party (NLP) has intensified its political operations across Ukambani, launching an aggressive grassroots campaign as momentum builds toward the 2027 General Elections. At the heart of this strategy is a series of town hall meetings designed to connect directly with local communities and entrench the party’s presence in the region.
The forums are being led by party leader Dr Augustus Muli, who has adopted a hands-on approach in rallying support on the ground. His engagements have drawn notable crowds, reflecting a growing curiosity and shifting political mood in a region long considered a stronghold of the Wiper Patriotic Party.
NLP is also reporting significant progress in its membership drive, with close to one million new members registered across Ukambani. Political observers view this surge as an early signal of evolving voter sentiment and a possible realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking during the engagements, Dr Muli said the town hall meetings are meant to give ordinary citizens a direct voice in shaping the party’s agenda. He stressed that NLP is building a people-centered movement focused on listening, inclusion, and responsiveness to grassroots concerns.
Analysts note that the party’s growing influence is steadily altering the political dynamics in Ukambani. NLP’s bottom-up mobilisation model is increasingly putting pressure on established players, particularly Wiper, and setting the stage for a more competitive political contest.
The party’s rise appears to have prompted a swift reaction from the wider opposition, which has announced a series of rallies across Makueni County, Kitui County, and Machakos County starting March 30, 2026. Dubbed the “Komboa Kenya” campaign, the initiative is widely seen as an effort to counter NLP’s growing influence and reassert political dominance in the region.
Dr Muli has positioned his political agenda as a decisive break from years of perceived neglect, faulting both the government and opposition for sidelining Ukambani. He has pledged to champion development, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance, presenting NLP as a transformative alternative ahead of the 2027 polls.
