Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe on Tuesday delivered his highly anticipated State of the County Address at the County Assembly chambers, where he outlined an impressive record of development and key strategic interventions across the region.

In his address, Governor Malombe reported that 1,921 infrastructural projects and programmes have been implemented across the county’s 40 wards and 247 villages within just two years and ten months of his administration.

“Out of these, 989 projects were implemented under the Community Level Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP) – a flagship initiative conceptualized during my first tenure,” said Malombe. “CLIDP continues to anchor equitable development, poverty alleviation, and the improvement of livelihoods for our people.”

On agriculture, a sector central to the county’s economy, Governor Malombe emphasized the role of agricultural extension and advisory services in transforming farm productivity and food security. He explained that the government is facilitating training through farm visits, field days, demonstrations, and farmer field schools, offering education on climate-smart agriculture and value chain development.

“Governments do not farm, farmers do. Our role is to empower them with knowledge and support,” Malombe said, noting that 527,208 farmers have already been trained on 72 agricultural and livestock production technologies.

Additionally, the Governor announced that the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair, which traditionally takes place in July, has been postponed to February 2026 due to ongoing construction at the Ithookwe Showgrounds, the designated venue for the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations.

“Kitui will host this year’s Mashujaa Day on October 20, 2025, an event that will be graced by His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto,” he announced.

Addressing water access and resilience, Malombe highlighted the county’s investment in sand dams and sump-wells, which he termed “a cornerstone” for building climate-resilient agriculture and improving access to domestic and irrigation water sources.

Governor Malombe was received warmly by Members of the County Assembly, with whom he engaged before delivering his speech. The address underscores the county’s commitment to service delivery, transformative development, and strategic preparedness ahead of a nationally significant Mashujaa Day celebration.
