Women and youth groups from Kitui South constituency received a significant boost toward economic empowerment during a comprehensive training session held in Mutomo, aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to access and manage Uwezo Fund loans.
The session was a collaborative initiative between the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) office in Mutomo—under the leadership of the area MP—and the office of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), led by Kitui County Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu.
The Uwezo Fund, a flagship initiative of the national government, provides interest-free loans to women, youth, and persons with disabilities to promote entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic self-reliance.
Speaking during the event, facilitators emphasized the importance of proper financial management, business planning, and record keeping to ensure the long-term sustainability of ventures started through the fund.
“This training is not just about accessing the funds but also about ensuring our women and youth use them productively and sustainably,” said Dr. Kasalu. “We are committed to building capacities that will empower grassroots communities to thrive economically.”
Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the training had provided them with valuable insights into navigating the application process and running successful income-generating activities.
The training marks a key step toward inclusive development and economic empowerment in Kitui South, as efforts continue to uplift marginalized groups through government-backed financial support and mentorship.
