The late matriarch Veronica Mulila, mother to safaricom chief corporate security officer and community leader Nicholas Mulila, was laid to rest in a colourful and well-attended ceremony at her home in Katheka village, Kitui West Constituency. Hundreds of mourners from across Kitui County and neighbouring areas gathered to celebrate her life and pay their final respects.
The funeral service brought together family members, friends, community members, and political leaders who turned out in large numbers to stand with the Mulila family during their moment of grief. The ceremony was marked by heartfelt tributes and reflections on the late matriarch’s life and values.
Among the leaders who attended the burial was Julius Malombe, who joined residents of Katheka in mourning with the family. The governor conveyed his condolences, describing Veronica as a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising responsible children and supporting the well-being of her community.
In his tribute, Governor Malombe praised the late matriarch for instilling strong values of discipline, hard work, and the importance of education among her children. He noted that such values played a crucial role in shaping the lives of many young people and building stronger families within the community.
The governor encouraged families across Kitui County to embrace the principles Veronica stood for, particularly investing in education and nurturing responsible citizens. According to him, strong family values remain the backbone of a progressive and united society.
The ceremony attracted several prominent leaders from the county who came to offer their condolences and honour the life of the late matriarch. Many speakers described Veronica Mulila as a respected elder whose life left a positive impact on both her family and the wider community.
Among those present was Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, who comforted the bereaved family and praised the late matriarch for raising children who continue to play important roles in community development and leadership.
Other leaders who attended included Enoch Wambua, Edith Nyenze, and Charles Nguna, who all paid glowing tributes to Veronica, describing her as a pillar of strength and unity within her family.
Also present were Kitui County Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, Joshua Kimilu, and Ben Muasya, among other dignitaries who joined mourners in honouring the late matriarch.
Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo, Members of the County Assembly, members of the County Executive Committee, and leaders serving alongside Charles Mulila in the County Budget and Economic Forum (CBEF) also attended the ceremony to show solidarity with the family.
Family members described Veronica Mulila as a loving mother, grandmother, and mentor whose wisdom and guidance shaped the lives of many people. As the community gathered to bid her farewell, speakers encouraged the Mulila family to remain united and continue honouring her legacy through service, integrity, and commitment to the community.
