Kisasi Member of the County Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Mutemi, Health CO Aggrey kamba, Environment CO Henry Nyamai , Madam Savani a sand committee member on Wednesday led a joint operation with County Enforcement Officers and members of the local community that resulted in the impounding of a lorry involved in illegal sand harvesting at River Nzeeu in Kisasi Ward, Kitui County.
According to Hon. Mutemi, the lorry was caught in the act of loading sand without a valid licence from the relevant authorities. Three other vehicles managed to escape after vigilant residents raised the alarm.
The impounded truck was towed to Kisasi Police Station as the driver reportedly fled the scene “like bacteria” to an unknown destination.
Hon. Mutemi commended the community for their cooperation and vigilance, urging residents to continue protecting natural resources from illegal exploitation. He also warned that the county government will not tolerate unlawful sand harvesting activities that degrade the environment and deny the county valuable revenue
