The Incoming Machakos Governor Hon. Waita Nzioka has criticized the County Government for what he termed as the politicization of key infrastructure projects in Yatta Sub-County, particularly the Katangi–Kiinyata–Makutano–Kithimani Road.
Speaking over the weekend, Waita said that meaningful government infrastructure projects demand proper planning, coordination, clear funding mechanisms, and above all, honest communication to affected communities. He accused the county leadership of making false promises that have since been exposed by failed delivery, three years into their mandate.
“What we are seeing in Yatta is a clear case of deception. Citizens were promised development, but instead they have been served with lies and politicization of projects. Eventually, wananchi will figure it out. In the meantime, we must continue to demand accountability and results from those in leadership,” Waita remarked.
He noted that residents of Yatta and the larger Machakos County deserve transparency and tangible progress, not empty pledges.
The stalled Katangi–Kiinyata–Makutano–Kithimani road project has been a major source of frustration for the local community, with residents lamenting the slow pace of development despite repeated assurances.
Waita reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing infrastructure delivery once he assumes office, promising to ensure Machakos residents get value for their taxes.
