Residents of Ithanga village in Mbooni Ward have raised alarm over what they term as deliberate neglect by the Makueni County Government in maintaining a key access road in their area.
Led by village elder Mr. Musau Mutisya, the locals accused the area MCA Mulemba and Ward Administrator Elizabeth of sidelining their community during the recent road maintenance program. According to residents, the road grader that was repairing roads in the ward was recalled before work on the stretch from Nduni Market, through AIC Isyukoni, to Kusyethuku Primary near Kwa Yoana Corner was completed.
Villagers allege that the move was politically instigated after they openly declared support for Prof. Philip Kaloki’s 2027 gubernatorial bid, a development that reportedly irked allies of Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., who hails from the same constituency.
“For years, we have been repairing roads, culverts, and drifts at our own cost since the days of Governor Kibwana when Madam Victoria served as Ward Admin,” lamented a resident.
In response, Prof. Kaloki pledged to step in if the county government fails to act within two weeks. He promised to mobilize development partners and friends to grade the road and repair the dilapidated culverts and drifts, ensuring residents have reliable access.
The standoff has further ignited political tension in Mbooni as residents continue to decry discrimination in county service delivery.
