A wave of political realignments is sweeping through Machakos County as a group of influential leaders and opinion makers have endorsed former State House Chief of Staff Hon. Waita Nzioka for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The leaders, drawn from various constituencies, argue that Waita has the experience, networks, and leadership skills needed to transform Machakos and address long-standing challenges such as poor infrastructure, unemployment, and weak healthcare systems.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti, now midway through her first term, has come under increasing criticism from sections of the public who feel her administration has not delivered on key campaign promises. This discontent is believed to be fueling the growing support for Waita’s anticipated bid.
Speaking during a consultative meeting in Machakos Town, local leaders described Waita as “a pragmatic leader with a proven record in public service and private sector management.” They said his candidacy represents hope for a county yearning for rapid economic growth and effective governance.
Political observers note that Waita’s entry could set the stage for a hotly contested race in 2027, with the potential to significantly shift Machakos’ political dynamics.
