The political battleground of Mwingi Central is shaping up for a fierce contest in the 2027 General Election, as embattled incumbent MP Gideon Mulyungi faces a formidable challenge from decorated Certified Public Accountant (CPA) John Makau.
According to the grapevine ,Mulyungi is reportedly eying county seat with former kitui governor Charity Ngilu as her principal deputy governor.
Makau, a respected professional and a close confidant of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, is being fronted as the fresh face to unseat Mulyungi, whose tenure has been marred by allegations of intimidation, goonism, and public discontent.
Residents have increasingly voiced their frustrations over what they describe as a toxic political environment under Mulyungi’s leadership, which has allegedly scared away investors, government agencies, and private institutions from holding public engagements in the fast-growing Mwingi town.
“Enough is enough. We want a peaceful, development-minded leader who can return respect to our constituency,” said a community elder during a recent civic forum.
Supporters of CPA Makau believe his clean track record, professionalism, and proximity to Kalonzo Musyoka offer the best chance to restore order and attract meaningful development to the region.
As the 2027 race gains momentum, the political duel between Mulyungi and Makau is expected to dominate conversations across Kitui County, with many seeing it as a referendum on leadership style and the future of Mwingi Central.
