Mwingi West Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Nguna has launched a major rural electrification program aimed at connecting over 1,542 households to the national grid in a move set to transform livelihoods across the constituency.
The initiative, spearheaded through collaboration with national energy agencies, is already underway in several parts of the constituency, with design works completed and wayleave processes in progress.
Some of the key areas currently benefiting include:
- Kithaalani town – 80 households
- Kikiini Secondary & Primary Schools – 166 households
- Kaikungu Primary – 107 households
- Musuani Secondary – 103 households
- Kwa Mbuta (new transformer) – 108 households
- Kwa Mbuvi Itoloni – 71 households
- Kasavani, Mukuthu, Kavililo, Siongoni, Kitumbi, Kakongo, Muthami, Mwambani, Lutuni, and Kwa Nzau villages – among others.
“This electrification project is part of our broader development agenda to improve social welfare and stimulate economic activity in rural areas. Electricity means children can study at night, health centers can operate efficiently, and local businesses can thrive,” said Hon. Nguna.
In addition to the active connections, several other sites are at the advanced planning stage, with pegging already done and awaiting material distribution. These include Ithenze Primary, Kitula Village, Kyome/Thokoa, and Misai Secondary.
Design and tendering are ongoing for additional locations, including Kasevi Dispensary, Migwani Town High Mast, Kwa Muthusi, and Winzyeei kwa Mbaa Ithuli, signaling more phases of the project in the pipeline.
The MP’s efforts have been widely praised by local leaders and residents, who view the project as a game-changer for Mwingi West’s development.
“This is the leadership we need. Electricity will not only improve our homes but will also boost education and security,” said a resident of Kaikungu.
Hon. Nguna has remained consistent in pushing for infrastructure development, saying his goal is to ensure that every corner of Mwingi West is powered, connected, and ready for growth.
