The National Liberal Party (NLP) and its leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli received a major political endorsement on Tuesday after the influential Agikuyu Council of Elders formally backed his leadership and presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a high-level meeting held in Nairobi, the Council’s national chairman Wachira Kiago welcomed Dr. Muli and granted him their blessings to engage leaders and communities across the Mt. Kenya region. Kiago hailed the move as a step toward building inclusive political alliances and national cohesion.

“We give our blessings to Dr. Muli and welcome him to speak to our GEMA people and leaders. The time has come to build bridges and unite. The GEMA community must not appear divided,” said Kiago.

The elders urged Dr. Muli to open dialogue with Mt. Kenya leaders and also reach out to fellow leaders from his native Kamba community, including Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka, in a bid to consolidate the Eastern vote for stronger regional bargaining power.

Present at the meeting were senior members of the Agikuyu Council of Elders, representatives from the Kamba Council of Elders, and delegates from the camp of veteran leader James Syengo. NLP Chairman Teddy Kenyatta also reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for Dr. Muli’s presidential candidacy.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Muli expressed gratitude to the elders and reiterated his commitment to national unity, uplifting marginalized communities, and championing a transformative leadership agenda.

“The National Liberal Party is deeply honored by this gesture of trust. I am committed to building a unifying and inclusive political movement that will offer Kenyans a real alternative in 2027,” Dr. Muli said.

The endorsement is seen as a significant milestone in Dr. Muli’s growing political influence and the NLP’s efforts to emerge as a fresh force in Kenya’s competitive political landscape.
