Former Machakos gubernatorial candidate Hon. Waita Nzioka is emerging as a strong contender for the county’s top seat in the 2027 general election, with growing support from both residents and political leaders.
Waita, who narrowly lost in the 2022 race, is being fronted as the best alternative to the current leadership, with many leaders and residents citing stalled development and poor service delivery under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration.
“There is no meaningful development on the ground. Health centres lack drugs, ECDEs are in poor condition, roads are impassable, and agriculture remains neglected,” lamented one local resident.
A section of leaders from Machakos have thrown their weight behind Waita, calling him a results-oriented leader who has the experience and vision to transform the county. They criticized Governor Wavinya for allegedly focusing more on politics than on development.
“The position of governor requires a manager, not a career politician. Waita Nzioka is the kind of leader who can bring real change to Machakos,” said a local MP.
As the 2027 race takes shape, Waita’s camp appears energized and confident, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown in Machakos County.
