The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, on Sunday led the ongoing government livestock restocking exercise in Mwingi Central, offering renewed hope to drought-affected families.
As part of the national effort to restore livelihoods in arid and semi-arid regions, 100 vulnerable households each received five goats. The initiative aims to support families who lost their livestock during the recent severe droughts that swept across Kitui and other parts of the country.
“The livestock restocking program continued today in Mwingi Central, bringing renewed hope to families who lost their animals during the last devastating drought,” PS Mueke said.
He emphasized that the program is more than just a handout. “We’re not just giving goats, we’re giving families a fresh start,” he stated during a media briefing.
The distribution was coordinated by the Deputy County Commissioner of Mwingi Central Sub-county, in partnership with local leaders and the State Department for Livestock. The exercise underscores the government’s dedication to building community resilience through sustainable livestock production and rural economic recovery.
