The long-awaited upgrade of the Ikutha–Kanziko–Mutha–Mutomo road to bitumen standard is now officially in motion following the release of a tender advertisement by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).
The announcement marks a significant infrastructure milestone for Kitui South, bringing renewed hope to residents who have long endured the challenges of a dilapidated road network.
The project, popularly referred to as “The Loop” by area Member of Parliament Dr. Rachel Nyamai, has been a top priority for the community and its leadership. It is part of a wider effort to open up Kitui South to economic opportunities, improve accessibility, and connect remote areas to major trade routes.
Local leaders and residents have expressed immense gratitude to President William Ruto for approving the project and committing resources to uplift the region. In addition to the road upgrade, the President has also allocated KSh17 million for rural electrification in Mutha Ward — a move that will enhance livelihoods, improve security, and stimulate business growth.
“We sincerely thank President Ruto for listening to the voice of Kitui South and for working hand-in-hand with our MP Dr. Rachel Nyamai to deliver this long-overdue development,” said a local elder from Kanziko.
Dr. Nyamai has been lauded for her relentless efforts in lobbying for the road upgrade and rural electrification program. Her cooperation with the national government is being credited for the realization of these transformative projects in Kitui South.
As the National Government begins the implementation of these initiatives, the people of Mutha, Kanziko, Ikutha, and Mutomo can now look forward to better connectivity, improved service delivery, and accelerated development.
