Tensions are rising in Machakos County after popular blogger and influencer MC Keke publicly accused Governor Wavinya Ndeti of exploiting needy bloggers. Speaking during a charged “Nzaa na Yua” event, Keke revealed that many young content creators working under the county’s communication team are struggling to make ends meet despite dedicating their time and platforms to defending the county leadership.
According to MC Keke, the county government has failed to honor its promises of allowances and logistical support to the bloggers, some of whom rely on financing options like Mkopa to purchase basic smartphones. “How can you expect someone to defend the governor online while using a Mkopa phone and lacking bundles?” Keke asked, pointing out the financial hardships faced by the youth in the governor’s communication unit.
The disgruntled bloggers have vowed to sever ties with Governor Wavinya Ndeti, citing frustration and lack of appreciation for their work. They expressed their willingness to support any leader, including the governor’s political rivals, provided they receive fair compensation and respect for their services.
This development is likely to shake the political ground in Machakos as digital influencers increasingly play a critical role in shaping public opinion. Observers note that Wavinya Ndeti’s administration may need to address the grievances urgently to avoid further erosion of online support.
