The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Kitui County continues to make notable progress in actualizing Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe’s 16-point sector manifesto, with visible impact on infrastructure, sanitation, and urban development across the county.
Kitui Municipality has emerged as a leader in promoting cleanliness and improved sanitation in public markets. Traders at Kalundu Market have praised the ministry’s efforts in transforming their working environment.
According to several small-scale traders, Kalundu Market is now cleaner, safer, and more conducive to business. This improvement is attributed to key projects such as the construction of modern public sanitation facilities, the drilling of water sources, and the installation of solar street lights that have extended trading hours and improved security.
Mueni Robert, a resident of Kaveta, expressed her gratitude to the county leadership, particularly CECM Frederick Kimanga and Chief Officer Evans Mutemi, for their commitment to delivering on Governor Malombe’s development promises. “The toilet facilities and access to water have improved our daily lives. We truly feel the impact of the county government’s work,” she said.
Timothy Munyoki, a watermelon vendor in the same market, applauded the recent erection of a perimeter wall around Kalundu Market. “This wall has made a huge difference in security and organization. We feel protected, and the market looks much better,” he noted.
In a related development, the Ministry has also been commended for its work in transforming Kyusyani Market under the “Dustless Town” initiative. On the same day, Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA praised the ongoing progress of the Kyusyani project, which aims to eliminate dust and enhance market infrastructure through paving and urban beautification.
“The transformation at Kyusyani Market is a game-changer for our people,” said the MCA. “Traders and residents can now operate in a cleaner, healthier environment—this is the kind of development we voted for.”
The leadership of Kitui Municipality has been at the forefront of implementing projects aligned with the county’s development agenda. With such impactful initiatives underway, residents remain optimistic that Governor Malombe’s vision for a modern, inclusive, and prosperous Kitui is steadily becoming a reality.
