The National Liberal Party (NLP) today made a significant political statement by welcoming nearly 20 former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Jubilee Party of Kenya officials into its ranks.
The officials, largely from the Mt. Kenya region and the greater Nairobi area, were officially received by NLP party leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli and secretary general Omondi K’Oyoo at a press briefing held at a Nairobi hotel.
Among the new entrants was Teddy Kenyatta, a prominent former Jubilee figure, who has been appointed as the new National Chairman of the National Liberal Party in a move signaling the party’s renewed push for national prominence.
Addressing the media, Muli declared that NLP is now on an aggressive path of nationwide membership recruitment.
“This is just the beginning,” he said. “We are building a strong, youthful, and determined political force. The NLP is the vehicle for young people across Kenya who want real change. Our goal is clear — to capture power in 2027 and defeat President William Ruto.”
The party leader also emphasized that the NLP is positioning itself as the alternative voice for Kenyans disillusioned by the current leadership.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive politics, transparency, and a transformative agenda driven by young leaders.
The defection of such a significant number officials is expected to stir political realignments, especially in regions that have traditionally supported the ruling party and other major parties
As the 2027 general elections approach, the National Liberal Party appears determined to establish itself as a formidable challenger in the national political arena.
