Green Africa Foundation (GAF), in partnership with KAWI SAFI and under the patronage of environmental champion Dr. Isaac Kalua Green, is implementing a transformative project titled “Community Empowerment on the Benefits of Adopting Clean Cooking and Lighting Technologies” in Mutha Ward, Kitui County.
The initiative, launched at the request of Hon. Dominic Mwamisi (alias Ndawa), the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Mutha Ward, aims to empower local communities by promoting the adoption of sustainable energy solutions. As part of this project, 23 young women from the ward have received full scholarships to pursue a technical course in Electrical and Solar PV Installation at the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
Today, a delegation from Green Africa Foundation accompanied by several media personalities toured Mutha Ward, visiting over 10 beneficiaries of the scholarship program. The team engaged with the young women, who expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to gain critical skills in renewable energy — a sector seen as vital to Kenya’s green growth.
Speaking during the visit, Green foundation official emphasized the need to invest in youth and clean energy as a pathway to economic empowerment and environmental conservation. Hon. Mwamisi lauded the initiative, noting it will not only uplift the lives of the young women but also enhance access to clean energy technologies in the ward.
The project marks a significant step in addressing energy poverty, promoting gender inclusion, and building local capacity for the green energy transition in Kitui County.
