Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is not banking on the endorsement or support of former President Uhuru Kenyatta to clinch the presidency in 2027, businessman and political commentator Campbell Munyambu has said.
Speaking to journalists in Mwingi town, Kitui County, Munyambu, who coordinates the larger Mwingi professionals and business community, dismissed recent media reports that painted Kalonzo as politically desperate and indecisive.
“There should be no illusions. Kalonzo only needs the votes of Kenyans to win the presidency,” said Munyambu. “At the same time, Uhuru has the constitutional right to back whoever he wants. But that support is not a guarantee of winning.”
Munyambu emphasized that while Uhuru had a commendable track record as president, Kalonzo’s prospects in the 2027 race did not depend on his endorsement. “Kalonzo has the backing of Kenyans. He is the right man to lead the country forward,” he added.
The businessman said the perception among many Kenyans was that Kalonzo Musyoka stands out as a credible, experienced, and integrity-driven leader who can rescue the country from its current economic, healthcare, and education challenges.
“The appearance of [former Interior CS] Fred Matiang’i or any other figure on the political scene does not change that equation,” Munyambu noted. “What Kalonzo needs are sound strategies that win the hearts and minds of Kenyans.”
He also urged the emerging opposition alliance to rally behind Kalonzo as the most suitable candidate for the top seat in 2027, citing his long-standing experience in both government and opposition.
“Kalonzo is honest, selfless, and understands both sides of leadership. He knows what ails the country and how to fix it. Kenya will be in safe hands under his leadership,” Munyambu said.
